Water Well Rehabilitation

Above
St Mary RC Primary School. This school has 340 students and they had no safe water access.
Well Rehabilitations
In Sierra Leone about 90% of all water wells are hand dug. There is a real shortage of water points throughout the country so its important to keep as many functioning as possible. This is highly technical and dangerous work, it takes a trained, skilled and experienced team to rehabilitate these wells.
The wells are opened up and pumped dry. A man will go down inside to inspect and evaluate the needed repairs. The repairs are made, casing is made if needed and installed. the team sinks the casing by hand to achieve a minimum water depth of
7 ft.in the dry season. The well is closed back up and a new hand pump installed. The well is shock chlorinated to kill all bacteria and the water tested to ensure it meets Government standards. The well pad and apron are repaired.
